Conde Nast Traveller has revealed the top friendliest countries in the world. They asked their readers to vote on their friendliest travel experiences across the globe. While Japan is highly regarded for its warmth and friendliness, the country didn’t place in the rankings at all. Brits, known for their love of queuing and making small talk about the weather, also didn’t make the list with none of the UK’s nations featuring.
Making it into the top ten, tied are Thailand and the Seychelles. As a popular destination for solo travellers and backpackers across South East Asia, Thailand is known as the ‘Land of Smiles.’ Thai people are known for their friendly nature and warm disposition, making it a welcoming country to visit.
The Seychelles may be one of the smallest on the list, but the islanders have made the list for their considerate and warm disposition. As one of the most luxurious and expensive destinations, the country has even hosted royalty. It was the paradise of choice for royalty, when Prince William and Princess Kate took a private jet to spend their honeymoon in the sun.
Another tie break saw the stunning Mauritius and Chile take the next spots. The island boasts pristine beaches and friendly people who take pride in their country. Chile was the only South American country, with a lively culture and openly affectionate residents.
Taking sixth place, Vietnam offers emerald bays and incredible food. The natives are known for being harmonious, with a sidewalk culture making the street corners the established place for socialising. Just beating Vietnam, the gorgeous country of Cambodia claimed fifth place. As a Theravada Buddhist country, the culture is centred around giving unconditional love to all beings. This means every visitor is greeted with the same heart warming kindness.
The South Asian country of Bhutan just missed out on the podium. Their government introduced the Gross National Happiness Index, ensuring any policies are made on a happiness-based approach. Residents are eager to share their happiness with visitors, establishing a reputation of kindness and warmth.
Winning bronze, the colourful country of Mexico was the third for its friendliness. As the country with the largest population, over 130 million citizens, tourists can expect a crowd of friendly faces. The luxurious Barbados claimed silver, with natives offering superb hospitality and helpfulness to those fortunate enough to visit the tranquil haven.
A surprising African country took the trophy. Known for its majestic wildlife and five-star resorts, Kenya won first place. Kenyan people pride themselves on being sociable and friendly to tourists. Their heartfelt greeting “Karibu Kenya” is used to welcome visitors and thank them for visiting. It’s no surprise this compassionate country came out on top.
